Monitors the effects of expansion and growth of the Los Angeles Airport on the businesses and community of El Segundo. This group is a sub-committee of the Government Affairs Committee. Meets monthly on the second Thursday at 7:30 a.m.
Ad-Hoc/General Zoning
Chairperson: David Steele, Hughes Aircraft - SCG
Monitors the effects of zoning changes and the implementation of the general plan of the City of El Segundo on the businesses. This group is a sub-committee of the Government Affairs Committee. Meets as needed. Call the Chamber for information.
Business Expo
Chairperson: Tom Quintana, Awards Rex Group
This May event is one of three major events for the Chamber. The committee is involved in all aspect of expo development, including planning, venue selection, advertisements, business booth sales, sponsorship acquisition, and day of expo operations. This committee begins meeting in January, every two to three weeks, until April when it meets weekly. Call the Chamber for information.
Downtown El Segundo (DESI)
Chairperson: Bill Crigger, New Group
Promotes the creation and maintenance of an inviting and prosperous downtown area. Currently, DESI is sponsoring the Downtown Historic Walking Tour, Civic Center Rejuvenation and Mural Project, and is facilitating merchant communication through the creation of block captains. Meets monthly on the second Wednesday at 8:00 am.
Education
Co-Chairs: Barbara Briney, Center Street School PTA & Denise di Pasquale, Fed-Ex
This committee works directly with the educational community in fostering strong business and educational partnerships to support and enhance the quality of educational programs. Events include: "Take Our Daughters to Work" Day, the High School Career Fair, the Academic Decathlon Team, and OSCOR. Members actively support major local fund-raisers and events for education. Meets monthly on the fourth Wednesday at 8:00 am.
Government Affairs
Chairperson: Carl Jacobsen, Glentek
Monitors and evaluates the impact on the business community of local, state and federal legislation and regulations. It meets with local officials to foster strong communication and information sharing; represents and informs Chamber members on major issues impacting their businesses; and sponsors candidate forums and community workshops on specific issues. Meets monthly on the first Wednesday at 7:30 am.
Installation Banquet
Chairperson: Pamela Corante, Pacific Bell
This June event showcases the Chamber, as a new board is installed. fundraiser for the Chamber. The committee is involved in all aspect of banquet development, including planning, advertisements, venue and entertainment selection, sponsorship acquisition, and day of banquet operations. This committee begins meeting in March, every two to three weeks, until May when it meets weekly. Call the Chamber for information.
Leadership El Segundo
Chairperson: Mari Peters, First Coastal Bank
The two-year program seeks to create a network of informed and empowered leaders committed to the El Segundo community. The committee consists of the members of the previous year's graduating class. They solicit class applicants, facilitate programs, and coordinate the operations and public relations functions. They also work on a class project. Call the Chamber for information.
Member Services
Chairperson: Kim Chieppa, Courtyard by Marriott-LAX
This committee is responsible for developing member retention programs and for creating and managing networking opportunities. Members are designated as Chamber ambassadors and mentors to new members. They coordinate and attend events such as monthly mixers, an annual business expo, networking breakfasts/lunches, and new member welcomes. Meets monthly on the first Tuesday at 4:30 pm.
Military Affairs Committee
Chairperson: Ron Lamb, TRW
The Military Affairs Committee works with business and government to encourage strong relationships and support for our military facilities in Southern California with special emphasis on the Los Angeles Fair Force Base, Space and Missile Systems Center located in El Segundo. We sponsor programs in support of base retention and improvement of the quality of life for military personnel and their dependents. We lead educational initiatives and encourage additional emphasis on math and basic science programs in local schools. We also study the economic impact of military facilities on the Southern California economy and work with federal officials so that we are advised about military personnel decisions affecting the local community. Public Relations
Chairperson: Heidi Maerker, Herald Publications
Promotes the Chamber through a variety of methods including the internet, advertising, and press releases to local publications. This committee meets at 4:30 pm on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
Richmond Street Fair
Chairperson: Kathryn Lourtie, El Segundo Chamber of Commerce
This October event is the major fundraiser for the Chamber and blends both businesses and community groups into an exciting day of entertainment for all. The committee is involved in all aspect of fair development, including planning, advertisements, vendor and entertainment selection, sponsorship acquisition, and day of fair operations. This committee begins meeting in June, every two to three weeks, until September when it meets weekly.
